Fedora Core 6: Can't start X server on Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1667A laptop

Hi guys,

Thanks in advance for Your repose.

Recently I have installed FC6 on my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1667A laptop. The problem is - I can't start the x server. During the installation i have to specify "linux text" to start the text based install.

When the installation finishes - "startx" ends up with a blank screen.

When I connect an external monitor to my laptop using the laptop's VGA port. I get the X windows on by CRT monitor but the LCD is blank.

I'm using RADEON Mobility x700 card. Linux detects it ok.

Change the monitor type to generic LCD - still get a blank screen.

Done some research on modifying Xorg.conf but no useful stuff was found.

Tried updating the radeon drivers, but failed to build the package.

SuSE 10.1 brings up the display OK. xorg.conf file has more records in it on suse (file is generated by SuSE SAX2 tool) I'm wondering if i would overwrite the Fedora file with the one SuSE produced??

Did someone came across with similar issues? All replies are appreciated.

Have exactly the same problem on Acer Aspire 3000 laptop. There are two kernels (Xen and non-Xen). The Xen one doesn't work. The other one works fine though. Did you try the other one?

hi there,

I had the same problem on a Satellite M70 320 with a ATi Mobility Radeon X700 ... I just added the folowing line on xorg.conf

Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS"

(at the display device)

Now i can login in GNOME typing init 5 ...

But there are still some problems. If anybody has a solution please help.
