Default Sound Device

I have two sound devices, one built on, and the other is a SB Live PCI card, but I can't seem to default the system to the SB Live. How do I tell Linux to make the SB Live card the default sound device?

How have you tried to default the system to the SB Live? Have you tried using HardDrake in the Mandrake Control Center?

I went to HardDrake. I don't know what I need to do there.

Unfortunately, I no longer have Mandrake installed, but in general, what you need to do is:

1) confirm that both devices are even showing;

2) look for a setting, when you select either device, that will a) disable the selected sound device (thereby allowing you to disable the onboard sound device, which would make the SBLive the default device), or b) set the selected device as the default device (which would allow you to make the SBLive the default device directly).

Otherwise you'd have to manually edit config files, and it seems unlikely that Mandrake would force you to this when the whole point is that it has Wizards to do it for you.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can find a more comprehensive discussion of the options available in Hard Drake, or perhaps a Mandrake user will happen by to explain more fully.
