Smtp/run file does not exist error when starting Qmail

Using Qmail on RH Linux 8. When starting Qmail from the command line, I recieve the error :

supervise: fatal: unable to start smtp/run: file does not exist

I am unable to start stmp; as a result, users can send email, but are unable to recieve incoming email. Please assist.....I've googled for the past few days with no luck ...

You have made a typo error when compiling, I do it all the bloody time, delete the compiled folders and start again!

I edited the smtp/run file (added comments), but now I am receiving "bad compiler " messages when attempting to start it.

the typo error that causes this problem is when creating the dir name - qmail-smtpd or the link in the /service has had a typo. however, you need to delete the /var/qmail dir /service /package then you extracted folders /use/local/src/ netqmail -x.xx /daemontools /ucspi. once you have done this you can leave the /etc/tcp.smtp in and start from scratch. I got a book on qmail but managed to install it before getting to the install section. The more time you do the install (painfull as it is) you then have a very good idea of how its working. I now have done the DNS patch, POP3d, SMTP auth and its working great! Keep at it cos its worth it in the end
