"Not authorized to control networking"

Dear ZenWalkers,

I've now been upgrading my ZW machine at weekly intervals over the last few months or so, and with my latest system upgrade I got into troubles with the NetworkManager applet.

Specifically I'm only allowed hard-wired connectivity to the Internet, whereby any wi-fy option is greyed out and and would lead to a "Connection failure: (1)Not authorized to control networking" error message. This I have noticed also pops up at boot as fatal.

An approach like I've seen on a few Linux forums, revolving around issuing the command
Code:
sudo usermod -G netdev -a yourusername
is ineffective on my system.

Is there someone else who's been encountering this problem?

With many thanks in advance for any help you may have to give,

[EDIT:] the latest round of package upgrades seems to have addressed the issue. Sincere thanks to the package developers!

Erm... it appears that the problem re-presented itself through the latest (or close to) set of package upgrades. Has this issue been previously reported? Should I have to wait for another set pf network-related package upgrades?

Many thanks for your help,

i think you should start to troubleshoot the problem.
you haven't given ANY solid info so far, like all messages the updater spits out.
it is best to use a command line package management tool for this.
if that doesn't help, you need to look at logs.

disclaimer:
i don't use zenwalk myself. what's it based on?

I apologise for the belated follow-up to and lack of detail in my original posting. Unfortunately my limited knowledge of underlying Zenwalk (a Slackware minimalistic fork) and more broadly Linux networking mechanisms makes it complicated to run appropriate diagnostics unless someone more experienced can guide me. I'd indeed be very happy and in fact grateful (for the learning) to receive some instructions.

In essence, any Wi-Fi network I attemot to connect to via Networkmanager leads to a password prompt (even for known memorised networks) invariably returning a "Connection activation failed. (1) Not authorized to control networking" message, regardless of the correctedness of the password. Wired connection instead works. Any clue?

It turns out that a fresh distro install with the latest .iso file resolved that, as well as a few other nagging issues. My ZW is now back up running without a hitch. Many thanks to the ZW developers' team!
