Problem in entering GUI mode after installation

Hi,

I installed VectorLinux 5.9 standard edition on my machine. When i login for the first time after installation, i am not able to enter into gui mode. It displays error message something similar to "GUI mode tried to start soon" and the system is reverting back to runlevel 2. Even when i enter init4 in shell, i am getting the same message and the system is reverting back to runlevel 2. What could be the possible reason for this?

honestly, I'm not guru, so bear with it.
Are you sure your video card is set properly? maybe running vasm (and tweaking video and X Window settings) will make things clear?
