i did an upgrade from 20.04. i usually don't upgrade but do a clean install. pretty buggy i think. how do i get rid of the pop-up that says "undo" when i move a file? very annoying. how do i get the "hand" cursor back when i move the mouse to a web link? the hand got changed to a little dinky thing. vlc is buggy. i should have waited until 22.04.2. what says u?
I think of it exactly the same as I thought of 20.04, and 18.04 before that. Can't stand it.
But that's the beauty of Linux. I don't need to like Ubuntu, since I can run Debian, or Arch, or Slackware, or Fedora, or...I think everyone got the idea by now. And my disliking it doesn't mean it's not a good OS, it just means it's not a good OS for ME.

I made a mistake and upgraded Ubuntu from 20.04 to 22.04 and my Canon scanner (CanoScan 4400F) stopped working. Has anyone run into this? If so how did you resolve it?
I tried to reinstall Xsane but it did not work. Tried Simple Scan and did not work either. At this point, I am just trying to set aside some time to resume troubleshooting to see if I can get my scanner to work under Ubuntu 22.04.

how about installing "wine" and using a windows driver for it. it might be worth a try....

Hi Emerson. I guess I was lucky with Ubuntu 20.04: after installation, I decided to test my canoscan 4400F and it just worked. I was so naive and expected that after migration to 22.04 it would continue to work but it did not.
dna9: I will look into wine to see that I can do.
rokytnji: kernel regression might be too advanced for me :-) but I will look into it.
Thank you all for your suggestions/comments. Keep them coming, cheers!

I tried installing wine in Ubuntu 22.04 but noticed that it is intended for 32-bits systems which I am not running. So I ditched the idea of running my canoscan 4400F in linux and will stick to just Windows 10 for now.
On my VPS, I upgraded from 20.04. No big breakages, except for OpenSMTPD, which I needed to manually rebuild against an older version of OpenSSL https://github.com/ugjka/ISSUE-BOOKMARKS/issues/9 . Otherwise I can't connect and send email externally
It seems really quirky and slow. like at the login screen the mouse jerks around. I just installed it so I am still playing around.
I dumped gnome and am using cinnamon wich takes forever to load.
Seems like if I copy something or do certain things it is hanging up without notification of what is happening then proceeds.
18.04 ran really smooth.
No issues here with KUbuntu. Stable and smooth as ever. But do miss the 'cube' when switching desktops.... No biggie though. Simply click on which desktop you want to look at from the status bar.
