Ubuntu rocks,
i used it 2 years ago but found Opensuse better,
but now i am back to ubuntu,
I do not need gnome and kde at the same time, just gnome will do,
and now ubuntu is very easy to update, upgrade and install tons of softwares.
It is very stable, sometimes windows 7 can even crash or hang,
but ubuntu never get hanged.

for most *.deb files, just right click and install with software center,
i wonder why openoffice's debian file can't do that?

You answered it yourself: It is a tarball, not a deb-file.
