Im really new to linux but have been using Ubuntu for about a year. Lets see what we can do.

Lets start with some basics. What type of computer do you have? How large hard drive? When you click System > Log Out > Restart, what exactly happens?

So when you hit Restart, describe to me what happens. The system goes through the shut down process, the screen turns to black, a bunch of lines of text race up the screen, and the system just what, turns off? I had that problem on Horay, 5.4 version. It would hang.

Really, unless you are rebooting a lot for some reason, dont worry about it. As long as you can shut down and then restart, this isnt something I would worry about. It might be something with your brand of computer, or something that isnt configured right.... but as long as you can restart it your all good.

if you have used sudo before it doesnt ask you for your password again.

if it didnt start up again, i suppose it is something fishy with ur computer... tho i have never had any problems like that before...
