Most everything there looks pretty standard. Most of the times, it is the small things on the laptops that either don't work or take all the time to get set up right, ie panel keys, etc.
The last time I played with the 5-1 card, it was not super easy to set up to be honest. That may take a little bit of work to get working exactly right.
The biggest concern I would have with any laptop is the wireless card. I have had varying degrees of success with ndiswrapper, but it is always better when you can get a native driver. For a fun read about this particular card, you can go to this 14-page thread. It is for Ubuntu (isn't everything now days), but it does not appear that this particular wireless card is trivial to setup.
Thanks for your reply.
I wonder about the graphics card, as nvidia quadro 2100m does not appear in the list of drivers in : the nvidia driver download page
There are only 5100M and 3100M
I bought the notebook and installed Slackware64-13.1 on it after relentlessly banishing the Windows 7 Professional edition that it came with . To my surprise everything really worked out of the box, even the wireless card and the battery. Maybe the only thing that misses is the Toshiba software concerning the fingerprint detection and face recognition, but I do not need them.
As I said, everything at least seems to work, nevertheless there are some disturbing messages that come out at booting. Here is an excerpt of the output of dmesg:
Code:

Are the error messages really harmless?
Besides, in the /var/log/messages it says that 4 cpus are brought up. The processor I have is intel core i5 520m. It is a dual core processor, so long as I have investigated. Why are thw two physical cores recognized as 4? Is that because of the hyperthreading?
If it does have hyperthreading, that is indeed why it is showing 4 procs.
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, it does have hyperthreading.
I forgot to mention that the kernel I boot with is the generic 2.6.33.4 kernel that is recommended.
