............ This, and the other stable kernels released today, consist of only some
reverts to solve some reported problems with the last round of stable
releases. Upgrading is not required, but highly recommended.......

Year 2021, Round 64
Another batch of updates has been scheduled for release on Saturday, 18 September 2021, at approximately 16:00, GMT. If no problems are found while testing the release candidates, they might be available sometime on Friday (depending on your time zone).
Looks like it's already fixed in mainline under commit dd98d2895de6. I've just rebuilt the kernel with the same fix (reboot pending), and assuming it works - could we have an official patched kernel for -current ?
Edited to add this fix resolves the segfault, as expected.
