SysV-Init Editor Questions

Hi all,

Is the SysV-Init Editor included with Slackware 9.1 broken?
I have the following problems when I run it:

1. It gives a message saying that I should run as root. Fine. I log out, and log
in as full root, and I get the same message.
2. Even though I specify the right path for the services and runtime files
(/etc/rc.d), I don't get anything except the file list on the left-hand panel
(nothing in the detailed mini-windows on the right).

Any comments? And is SysV-Init useful anyway?

Thanks!

I had to google to see what that was - some kind of KDE gadget? It's not useful to me. Slackware has some SysV compatibility built-in for dumb programs that require it but it's BSD - if you need to fix something, edit Slack's scripts with a text editor and if you need to add something that doesn't really go anywhere else, stick it in /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

As far as how the program should act if you *did want to use it, I don't know - maybe it just doesn't recognize the names, structure, and so on, of Slack? No idea really.

Thanks digiot,

I was just wandering why it was included in the distro and behaved so badly (or whether it was my ignorance?)

I think that Pat V. believes in allowing you to get the pure gnome/kde desktop.
