Start ur sys in singel user mode

When ur grub display come, press down arrow... so it will stop

then press 'e' and go on 2nd line and press 'e' again and append 'emergency' OR '1' to that line

press enter and then 'b' to boot

it will boot in singel user mode and then u will have root shell

to set password...

Code:
passwd username

Do you have the root password? If so, try to log in as root. If the GUI does not allow this, then enter ctrl-alt-F1 (or F2 or F3) to get a command-line.

If you have lost both the user and root passwords, then you need the previous method.

Curiosity --

Why is a discussion of password recovery using single user mode OK; but John the Ripper & ophcrack can't be mentioned w/o the thread getting closed?

As a computer consultant, I need to recover lost passwords for my clients, both Linux & Other.
