Edit grub.conf or lilo.conf depending on which you use. The option to change the name was also available during the install process.

In a console do this:

Type su, hit enter
Type the root password, hit enter
You will now see this: # next to where you type, this means you are root
Assuming you have installed pico or nano or some other text editor....
Type, for example, pico /etc/grub.conf and hit enter (this also assumes that you have grub installed)
Edit the entry which says "DOS" to whatever you want it to be
Save the file and exit the text editor
Then type exit and hit enter to no longer be root (you will see $ in place of the #)

On next boot, the entry will have changed.

Terminal - also known as console. Have a look through your kde/gnome menu - it's in settings or something similar.
