Cannot Change GNOME Menu Items to add/change Item for Mozilla 1.3 After Upgrade

After installing Mozilla 1.3, I attempted to change the icons on the Gnome menu to point to Mozilla's new location in /usr/local/bin.

I went to properties and changed the binary location and then clicked Close.

Doesn't matter which program I do this for, I get an error:

Cannot save changes to launcher
Details: Error writing file applications:/Internet/XXXXX.desktop: Readonly file system.

I have seen gaim and mozilla replaced for the XXXX above.

When I tried to delete the Mozilla icon and then add it back, I got Cannot Save menu item to disk. Details Error Writing File "applications/Internet/Mozilla Web Browser.desktop: Unsupported Operation".

How can I get mozilla back on my menu? Also when I tried to add it manually, all of the info in Advanced was missing.

I still have an icon that works on the GNONE Panel, but cannot seem to get it back on my menu under "Internet".

Thanks,
Scott

Unfortunately menu editing is disabled in RH8 and 9 due to instability problems with the new vFolders spec. You'll have to edit the launcher by hand. Look in /usr/share/applications for mozilla.desktop (or something similar), it's just a text file.

In RH9 you can enable editing very easily.

There is a gnome configuration file that RH supplied to enable the feature. look in /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0. Make a backup of your default-modules.conf, then copy the default-modules.conf.with-menu-edifing to default-modules.conf. Restart your X server and voila, you can edit your menus.

Getting closer I think. Now instead of reaonly file system, I get:

Cannot save changes to launcher
Details: Error writing file 'applications:/Internet/redhat-web.desktop':
File exists

I don't understand why it is complaining that the file exists when all I am trying to do is update the properties.

Thoughts?
