Forum went down again.

http://www.forum.puppylinux.com down with a 404 error. Looks like the hosting company changed from securesignup.net to Ifastnet? Went down at top of this hour as I was going to post a reply to someone's question.

*Sigh*...

I'm glad to see it's not JUST me. Somewhat to be expected, though; rockedge, our admin, is in the throes of trying to not only upgrade the old Murga Forums from the ancient version of PHP they were running to the very newest (it was successful, I'm pleased to say), but also of attempting to consolidate ALL of the associated Puppy sites under one common domain umbrella, AND of allowing time for it all to propagate worldwide throughout the global DNS network.

A task that is LONG overdue, it must be said.....and all credit to rockedge for taking on a job that many have been shying away from for years.

Despite the vaunted speed of the modern internet, it's not a 5-second job. Expect a few more days of disruptions yet.....

(*shrug*)

Mike.

EDIT:- Hm. I suspect rockedge wasn't even aware of this, from a reply I got from him a couple of hours ago. It rather looks like SecureSignUp may have been bought out by iFastNet without any warning to its customers, and, well.....a "new broom sweeps clean", and all that. Could be a while before we get the Forum back to normal.

UPDATE:-

The main Puppy Linux forum is now once again back on-line, as of approx midnight tonight (~ 20 minutes ago).

Cheers, rockedge!

@BarryK:-

Well, that's answered that. I had visions of the hosting company having been taken over, and a new owner requiring everything to be set-up again from scratch!

Keep us posted, please? Thanks.

Mike.

thought bubble

Barry / Mike / Erik

I've been thinking for some time about making a simple puppylinux 'emergency forum' on a free service like proboards,
as I get the feeling LQ aren't that enthused with us only posting 'forum down' messages.
Would contain:

- Usage disclaimer
- Current Major Issues messages
- 'About Puppy' paragraph
- Links to main forum and LQ forum
- Links to major Puppy software sites
- A General area
- A Mod-only area.
- Closed registration - just a handful of mods, who are able to post publicly.

If I find it unpopular, well it was an idea . . .

@ozsouth:-

Sounds like a plan, Oz. I've felt for a while that we DO need some kind of emergency contact/broadcast method, precisely for these kinds of scenarios.

LQ.org are good about letting us have this sub-forum, but I understand that some former members - in years gone by - may have abused that trust.....

I don't think it's a coincidence that this is happening now.

Keyboards are used as a weapon.

Haven't been here for a while. I was wondering what was happening yesterday morning, forum was really unresponsive, then in the afternoon getting a Supsension page. Hope we can get back to normal soon.

Edit:I think I must be the longest registered Newbie on record.

Hello everyone. I tried to go to the forum yesterday, and there is an inscription "account suspended". Today I read the news from Barry and found an explanation: https://bkhome.org/news/202203/puppy...m-is-down.html. There was also a link to this forum.
