new needs help with aclocal.m4

Hi,

I get the following error on RH9 using KDevelop 2.1.5 when I try to compile a simple program.

Quote:
Your implementation of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE comes from an older version. You should recreate aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.
I have no idea how to address this. I know Atomake versions 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 are installed and autoconf 2.57

So okay, I go out and find and install a newer version of Automake and Autoconf. Install them, then what. You see, did that already and since have reinstalled RH9 with all updates.

Help please if you can.

i havent seen that message before, but it doesnt mean that you are having a problem with your version of automake. its just saying that you need to update that script file, not the package.
hth.

Well now for the funny part. At work I had to install Redhat as my boss is older and has to be a name he is familiar with. At home I have Mandrake 9.2 installed. Same versions of Automake and Autoconf, yet no error with the exact same code at home. Same Kdevelop 2.1.5 and same QT 3.1

There has to be a file that needs to be edited so to be a permanent fix. I can currently get around it by running Automake and Autoconf from the Build Menu in Kdevelop. But that is not a fix, its a bandaid.

Note, I'm still a newb here, wanting to learn, willing to dig. Been three weeks since I started this project to find a suitable IDE for possibly porting Windows apps to Linux. Our current Windows apps are a main project with many smaller apps inside sharing common code, resources, etc. This is why I have chose to go with KDevelop. Has not been fun so far. Would really like to know how to get past the dependency issues so I could upgrade to Kdevelop 3.0. Tried, rpm -Uvh *.rpm "no good!"

roadhog....
