newbie: unzip rar files?


How can I unzip a rar file, i don't find the program I have to install in MDK9.2

hxxp://www.rpmfind.net type the search entry just rar and press search wait a few seconds then you will see the RPM packages for different distros,choose from the the one which fits your distro versions and arch.download and install then on console type rar and enter or rar -help.

Its called file roller. It's been included since 9.1.

nope you're wrong my friend!I am talking about RAR!!!!!and he asks how I can unzip rar file!!!it is called rar and it is available from hxxp://www.rarlab.com
file roller won't work to unrar the RAR files!!!

you cant.. only tar/tar.gz etc.

Have you tried file roller? I have it opens up RAR files because I've used it before.

use unrar, it's quick and simple - mandrake rpms are available from http://plf.zarb.org

or just google for a tarball

then: unrar -x $filename

courtrrb is right, file-roller _can_ open .rar archives, but it's only a front-end to the command-line compression tools. If your distro doesn't have native .rar support, file-roller won't.

If command-line tarball support wasn't included in the distros by default, fileroller wouldn't be able to open them.

typing: $compression-tool -$options filename

is quicker than using file-roller. Tab-completion and <Ctrl> + <R> are your friends.
