Not true. I use Mandriva Free 2009.1 (Spring), the x86_64 installation here. When you get to the iso directory on the Mandriva ftp site of your choice, get mandriva-linux-free-2009.1-x86_64.iso. This is a DVD image, 4.4GB in size, so you will need a fast connection to get it.

mickeyboa, I think Glenn was passing the following link:

http://download.kde.org/mirrorstatus.html

It is at the very top of his post,

HTH,

sorry I thought you were after the individual packages, not the dvd.

http://www.mandriva.com/en/download/free

Pick the free edition not the "One" edition. The free edition comes with both gnome and kde4.

Cheers, Glenn

A link to a (usually) reliable mirror:

ftp://ftp.free.fr/pub/Distributions_...al/iso/2009.1/

Thanks guys for the info.
Is KDE the default desktop on Mandriva ?

Mandriva doesn't spell out just what is KDE or Gnome in a lot of their ISO's and it's confusing, but I want just KDE.

Thanks again guys.

The Mandriva One Editions are i586 LiveCDs, so they only include either GNOME or KDE & it's mentioned in the filename.

The Mandriva Free Editions are Full Installation DVDs (with Free Software only), so they only come in 1 DVD per architecture with everything in there. They include KDE4, GNOME & LXDE. You choose which one you want during installation.

The Mandriva Dual-Arch CD is a i586 + x86_64 (Dual Architecture) Minimal Install CD. It only includes LXDE, so it's good for older systems.

Just on the wm's with Mandriva, you may select from a few different ones.

xfce4, icewm, kde, kde4, gnome, lxde, Maybe some others too.

If Mandriva drops support for kde3.5.x you can get it from kde. It's available from the repo.

Get the minimal install cds as all the packages in the dvd would be old.

Interestingly their whole website says next to nothing about x86-64

i have this and am about to install it on a system i need to rebuild:

mandriva-linux-one-2009.1-KDE4-europe1-americas-cdrom-i586

the date on the downloaded iso is april 29.

which kde is that? i think it's fairly old. if so, would running the
software updater bring things up to kde4.3? or would i have to do a
full uninstall/reinstall of kde to get it up to 4.3?

i'd really like to get a cd (this system has no dvd) that will just
install a current kde and avoid having to uninstall/reinstall.

thanks,
BabaG

Hi, it's kde ver 4.1.1 (I think)

and it is the Mandriva 2009.1 version (spring) for i586 (for 32 bit processors).

But that cd will not have everything you may need to setup your system completely.

You will need to go to easy-urpmi webpage to setup the repos.

http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/

You may get the kde4.3 repos from here, (kde)

http://download.kde.org/mirrorstatus.html

Hope this helps, Regards Glenn
