Is there still a free version? All I can find is a link to buy it or join the club.

There is no 'regular' version. The 'limited edition' means nothing - its just Mandrake 10.2. Just before 10.2 was about to be released Mandrake decided to switch to yearly releases (and change their name to Mandriva) with a release of 'Mandriva 2006' out in late-2005. Since this was early in 2005 they decided to not just name it Mandriva 2005 but 2005LE to signify that they would be releasing the next version (called 2006) later in 2005!!

Mandriva is the old Mandrake. They changed the name because they bought Conectiva and they were being sued for using the name Mandrake. For non French speakers, if you go to the MandrivaLinux website and click download, there are several options available. Click download from public ftp mirors and you will get a link to the free version. Mandriva have always stated that there will always be a free version of their distro.
