3 Days ago i installed Mandriva. Got the Flash and Mpeg codecs, but i still have no sound.
Not on youtube (at least i can see the videos) neither at playing my mp3s with amarok.
I'm using a realtek onboard soundcard, which works fine on any live CD.
Help me guys!
We'll need more information to work with here. First, goto configure channels in Kmix & play with the slider and switches. It might just need some tweaking.
You could also post the output of lspci to tell us what soundcard izit.
Another (simple) thing to check: Is sound muted, either in kmix or pulse? I look at the simplest things first, because they are just that - simple. The simple things seem so obvious to more experienced users, that they are often overlooked. Such oversights can lead to long, arduous, troubleshooting sessions, and can break what was not broken in the first place. When I first stared learning about computes, I assembled small utilities for MS-DOS using the debug utility. During that time, I learned the K.I.S.S. principle: "Keep It Simple Sam". That bit of wisdom has served me well through my adult life, because it works on much more than computers.
The pulse volume control applet package is called pavucontrol. You can install it using the Mandriva Software Package Manager, or by opening a terminal window then switch to the root user by executing the following command:
su (Your root password will be required)
Next execute the following command:
urpmi pavucontrol
urpmi may ask to install additional software packages on which pavucontrol depends. You should confirm the request.
After installation, the pulse audio volume control should be found under the Sound & Video menu.
