I recently installed mandrake 9.1 just to try it out and I have a couple questions.

1) Is there any way to get the "root" login option to appear in the default login GUI? In 9.0 this was there, but seems to have disappeared in this release.

2) I've tried installing by just upgrading from 9.0 and also by doing a clean install. Both times i have found that the "Hard Drake" application seems to be missing and instead brings up a "Log Drake" application instead. Has anyone else encountered this, or is it possibly a problem on one of the install CD's i have?

3) What is currently the best file system to install this OS on? I've been experimenting but really haven't given it much time or reached a conclusion.

What do you mean by best file system. I would stick with a journalizing on like ext3, ReiserFS, JFS or XFS. A lot of people use ext3 or ReiserFS. I use ResierFS and have not had a problem. JFS and XFS are newer and I have not heard a lot about people running them.

With regard to question 1 ypu can add root to your login by going to control centre > system administration > Login Manager > users and as system administrator select root to be unhidden.
