Mandrake 9.1 Installation Problem with Asus A7N8X Deluxe

Ok here is the problem I am having I have the Mandrake 9.1 download distribution that came with a version of Linux Format magazine. I installed this on my other computer which has an older Soyo motherboard and it worked great. Probably the fastest and easiest install of any OS I have done. Getting to the point the Asus motherboard on my main computer is having a problem. It gets to the screen where it asks me what kind of installation I do and no matter the choice I make the next thing it does is give a blank screen and the caps lock and scroll lock lights just blink and ctrl/alt/del does not do a thing and I need to hit the reset button to make it restart only to do the same thing.
Thank you in advance for any help on this matter.
Steve

Hi, thought i might offer a suggestion to you. i run the a7v600 board, and ran into same problem. turns out it was a combination of the on board bridges and my nvidia gfx 5600 card. the solution was to hit F2 at very start of install, and do an expert ; text ; install. it chose the correct settings for everything, and at the end you can change anything that u need to change in the sumary. hope it helps. p.s. downloaded proper nvidia drivers once i was up and running

Stilgar, I had the very same problem with my Soyo motherboard. I had 1.5 GB of memory on my board and there is an apparently well-known problem with memory over 1 GB or 900 MB. Go to the General section and look for my thread titled "Kernel panic on Fresh Installation" for details.
If you don't feel like doing that, I suggest you remove memory cards until you are under 900 MB. It worked for me.
If you need the memory there is an erratta for 9.1 at Mandrakes website. The address is posted on my thread. Good Luck!

Stilgar is correct.

I believe you have to interrupt the graphical boot of the install and enter the textual installation mode? I don't remember the exact list of steps as this was earlier this year and it was my first foray <sp> ever into the Linux world (using Mandrake). I went away from Linux for a while after that and I've JUST reinstalled to start learning this stuff FINALLY! However, this time around my box has 256MB of RAM .. nowhere near 1G.
