Exclamation Asus A7N8X Deluxe

Ok I hate to have a new thread devoted to this but I'm not getting anywhere with the other threads out there.

First let me say be gentle I'm a nOOb where Linux is concerned! I have had several good install on other hardware but I decided to create a dual boot with XP pro (no problems here)! The problem I'm having is with my 3Com Lan and other nForce issues.

I have followed a tut from http://attila.stevens-tech.edu/~dkopko/a7n8x.txt but it goes into updating the kernel with a beta version and I'm not into beta --not being new to Linux. There a bunch of other things to but i digress.

My question has to do with the section that goes starts patching things:
patch -p1 < ~/asusa7n8x_3com.diff

How can I use the asusa7n8x_3com.diff file to correct the problems with my 3Com 3C920B lan card?

I am also having issues getting the sound and net card for nForce2 to work. I have not spent much time trying to get the sound and Nvidia nforce net card to work though. Hope fully their drivers will be enough for me.

Any guideance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Voyager

EDIT: The version of Linux I have is 2.4.18-14

if you're not willing to install the latest beta then it mighten work, but you can always try with non-beta, by skipping these lines in their instructions...

bunzip2 patch-2.4.21-pre3.bz2
bunzip2 patch-2.4.21-pre3-ac4.bz2
patch -p1 < ~/patch-2.4.21-pre3
patch -p1 < ~/patch-2.4.21-pre3-ac4

you may also want to download the latest "ac" patch for 2.4.20 from...
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...lan/linux-2.4/
