dmesg doesn't appear to have loaded cx18. Did you download it and copy to the /lib/firmware/$KERNEL_VERSION (appropriate kernel version directory that is)?
the cat /dev/video0 should have > test.mpg at the end of it.
I am not sure I understand what you are saying, did I download "dmesg"...?
I went to cd /lib/firmware/ and did not see a kernel version there...
