hdcdrom_usb.img not found in mdk 10.1

I cannot find hdcdrom_usb.img in mdk 10.1, but only in 9.2. Does it mean that booting from USB CDROM is not supported in mdk 10.1?

and what if I have a USB DVDrom? Can I use it to boot with the DVD installation disc? Thanks.

Booting to a USB CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is up to your motherboard bios. Maybe that's why it's not there anymore.

Maybe I didn't say clearly. It's not "booting from USB CDROM" but "booting from floppy then continue installation on USB CDROM". I tried hdcdrom_usb.img from mdk 9.2 and it worked. But probably i cannot use it to install mdk 10.1 since the kernel version is different. Anybody knows the answer? Thanks.

No, you stated that clearly. I am going to assume your motherboard can't boot from a usb device since you insist on using the floppy instead of the bootable CD.

You can update your motherboards bios if that is the case. It may/may not add that feature. Otherwise, you're just screwed. Sorry.

Thumbs up

Hi,
I believe Mandrake no longer supplies 'hdcdrom_usb.img ' because the USB support is inherent in the supplied kernel. So a boot floppy with 'cdrom.img' will probably find your USB CD/DVD drive without the need of a special USB CD option.

I had a similar problem with my Mandrake on DVD only, not CD. I needed to install on a machine to which the only DVD drive I could attach was via USB. I fretted when I could'nt find 'hdcdrom_usb.img' but in the end tried the basic 'boot.iso'. I booted on this disc, chose the default boot settings, when prompted with the installation source listbox I chose CD as the install medium and, lo & behold, there appeared my USB DVD. From there on installation was as normal.
Cheers, Kimdino

I have managed to overcome the same problem with Mandriva 2006. The answer is on linuxforums dot org, but I'm not allowed to post a link to it - will do so when I have made 5 posts!!

The article title on that site is "Mandriva 2006 Install from USB CD Drive"
