I have had on some machine the taskbar was hidden just like in windows move your cursor and see if you can grab it. If not log out and do a alt-cntrl-f1 log into your user account and then do a rm -rf .kde Then do a alt-cnt-f7 and log back into your account.
This will make it act like the first time you log in. When it ask to configure your account skip the wizard and let me know what happens next

Log out of your account so that your at the graphics log in screen(right click on the desktop and this should give a menu in order to log out). Now hit these three keys at the same time alt-cntrl-f1 so that your at the console. Now log into your users account. Type in "rm -rf .kde" but without the quotes. log out of the uses account by typing exit. Now at the same time type in alt-cntl-f7 this should put you back at the graphics login screen. Now log back into the users account. If the welcome dialog box comes up this time just skip the wizard. This is how I fix my 4yr old login account when he really messes it up

thats why youve never seen a log in screen. I've had and seen more problems with autologin than I can shake a stick at.

Log out of you account right click on the desktop and exit
do the alt-cntrl-f1 and log into root
type "init 3" without the quotes
type in "startx" without the quotes (this will start the graphics but in the root account)
You should have the taskbar at the bottom. Now the K startmenus go to Configuration>Configure your computer
the Mandrake control center will come up. Now select the icon labeled Boot
select DrakBoot with the next dialog box you will see an option to turn off autologin.
Ok the dialog box and log out. This will put you back at the console. Type in reboot and your system should reboot but leave you at the login screen

Ok here is your solution. Your color depth is way to high. You video card will only support 15 bit color. The other thing is the driver choice. If you are in a console session launch XFdrake as root. Then choose the driver for your card. It will probably be listed by chip set. Then you may have to back up to XFree 3.3 instaed of 4.3. that should get you going.
