have you tried exporting PATH the way I suggested earlier? Perhaps, that's all there is to it or it could be more messy as kamstrup suggests.

Exporting path works for login into KDE, like you said, but I keep getting those error messages when I login in SSH, or after alt-ctrl-F1.

Even if I create a new account, I'm getting those errors, so the problem is not really the old user accounts...

back up your /etc/profile and then edit it in the following way. Right before the line that says
export PATH PS1 USER LOGNAME MAIL HOSTNAME INPUTRC NLSPATH
place a line that says
PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin

This might help.
