I did a urpmi kernel-source after a fresh install (did a full system update just before)

Anyway I followed the steps on page 1

and now X won't load

in XFree86.0.log I spotted this

(II) Loading extension XFree86-DRI
(II) LoadModule: "radeon"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o
(II) Module radeon: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
compiled for 4.3.99.12, module version = 4.0.1
Module class: XFree86 Video Driver
ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.7
(EE) module ABI minor version (7) is newer than the server's version (6)
(II) UnloadModule: "radeon"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o
(EE) Failed to load module "radeon" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

I used the ATI 3.9 and latest DRI snapshot radeon-20040604-linux.i386.tar.bz2

I can't help you with that (sorry). Hope somebody else can.
I run Q3 and UT (old version) and Xine without any problems

C++Boar

PS : Or maybe if you think that helps I can upload or send the files I have used.
If the new onces should be buggy.

(EE) module ABI minor version (7) is newer than the server's version (6)

Does that mean my dri is too reent or that the ati driver is too recent?

About your method a part from most packages, latest update and kernel source is there anything else I need to install before starting?

/Edit

Btw how can I know monitor horizontal and vertical frequency and refresh rate in mdk?

Worked this time using the same DRI C++Boar used

glxgears
40151 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8030.200 FPS

fgl_glxgears
6528 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1305.600 FPS

Thanks C++Boar

I have a big problem of freeze in several conditions:
- when pressing Ctrl + Alt + Fn in KDE or Gnome to go in a console,
- when closing a session in KDE or Gnome, or at reboot, except if launch in a console by typing "reboot" or "halt",
- when launching "Enemy Territory", or UT2004
- in fact, when i try to use my graphic card in a certain way (i think so).

Here is my config:
AMD Athlon64 3000+ @ 2000MHz on Asus K8V-F with Via K8T800 Chipset
512 MB, 2 HDs 200 GB (WinXP)+ 80GB (MDK10 Official)
ATI RAdeon 9800 Pro AIW 128 MB

More infos at:
www;targa;co;uk*cms*targa_2_459.php?produkt_id=284
(As i am not able to post url yet, i have replace . by ; and / by * in targa site!!!)

As the problem seams becoming from my ATI Radeon, I have installed the fglrx ver 3.7.6 driver from ATI for XFree86 V4.3.0. Acceleration is fine now, but freezes remain.

Is the solution given here in post #1, from C++Boar, related to nforce 2 chipset will work with my MB?

Is the problem comming from my AMD64 Athlon working with a "std" 32 bits kernel? (2.6.3-7mdk)

Lots of questions, and still no answers, even on MandrakeClub or MandrakeExpert !

Any idea how to fix?

Help appreciated.

This post was meant for nforce2 with a 32-bit processor.

I have not heard about any luck with AMD64. But I have not followed the news.
I have no experience with 64-bit, but I know that it has been a problem.

(the guru) Erol said "good luck" in the stuff I have read.

I would like to help but I can't - sorry. I hope you find a solutions.

Could you (C++ Boar) please send met the dri that you used. I had to reinstall and the new snapshots don't seem to work anymore.
If you send it, i will put it on the web so anyone can access the snapshot you used.

Greetz, Carlito.

Thanks, C++Boar. I have partially solve my problem by adding "noapic nolapic" in the append line in my lilo.conf file where my kernel is loaded. Now, the system does not crash everytimes i logout or play UT2004 or ET. Just sometimes...

I have also read Erol-the-guru thread you gives in the post #1, and the one from Braveheart1980, here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&pagenumber=1, and finally found that: http://www.rage3d.com/content/articles/atilinuxhowto/. Do you have read it before?

My motherboard is in this howto, and suposed to work with ATI drivers and kernel AGP driver with a 2.6.4 kernel ! I just need to find one!

I will keep you informed if you want ...

May the nForce2 be with you !

I have changed my post #1.

The new DRI is not needed (anymore?).
However since people might want to do it the old way it would maybe be nice with a link to it.

something you have /usr/carlito ?

/C++Boar

PS : http://www.rage3d.com/content/articles/atilinuxhowto/ is not helpfull and not up to date,
