I did a urpmi kernel-source after a fresh install (did a full system update just before)
Anyway I followed the steps on page 1
and now X won't load
in XFree86.0.log I spotted this
(II) Loading extension XFree86-DRI
(II) LoadModule: "radeon"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o
(II) Module radeon: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
compiled for 4.3.99.12, module version = 4.0.1
Module class: XFree86 Video Driver
ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.7
(EE) module ABI minor version (7) is newer than the server's version (6)
(II) UnloadModule: "radeon"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.o
(EE) Failed to load module "radeon" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
I used the ATI 3.9 and latest DRI snapshot radeon-20040604-linux.i386.tar.bz2
Ive finaly enabled installed the drivers using the method C++Boar ....THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope though in the future ati would come with something easyer to install because for a noob like me this was a torture!
After the install did anybody had problems with sound?
Thanks again!!!!
I have a big problem of freeze in several conditions:
- when pressing Ctrl + Alt + Fn in KDE or Gnome to go in a console,
- when closing a session in KDE or Gnome, or at reboot, except if launch in a console by typing "reboot" or "halt",
- when launching "Enemy Territory", or UT2004
- in fact, when i try to use my graphic card in a certain way (i think so).
Here is my config:
AMD Athlon64 3000+ @ 2000MHz on Asus K8V-F with Via K8T800 Chipset
512 MB, 2 HDs 200 GB (WinXP)+ 80GB (MDK10 Official)
ATI RAdeon 9800 Pro AIW 128 MB
More infos at:
www;targa;co;uk*cms*targa_2_459.php?produkt_id=284
(As i am not able to post url yet, i have replace . by ; and / by * in targa site!!!)
As the problem seams becoming from my ATI Radeon, I have installed the fglrx ver 3.7.6 driver from ATI for XFree86 V4.3.0. Acceleration is fine now, but freezes remain.
Is the solution given here in post #1, from C++Boar, related to nforce 2 chipset will work with my MB?
Is the problem comming from my AMD64 Athlon working with a "std" 32 bits kernel? (2.6.3-7mdk)
Lots of questions, and still no answers, even on MandrakeClub or MandrakeExpert !
Could you (C++ Boar) please send met the dri that you used. I had to reinstall and the new snapshots don't seem to work anymore.
If you send it, i will put it on the web so anyone can access the snapshot you used.
Thanks, C++Boar. I have partially solve my problem by adding "noapic nolapic" in the append line in my lilo.conf file where my kernel is loaded. Now, the system does not crash everytimes i logout or play UT2004 or ET. Just sometimes...

The new DRI is not needed (anymore?).
However since people might want to do it the old way it would maybe be nice with a link to it.
