Assign keystrokes for switching desktops

I very often have multiple applications open on different desktops. I also like to keep the kicker slid out of my way, but it's annoying to have to slide it back to click on the desktop I would like to go to.

Is there a way to assign specific keystrokes to switch desktops? For example: Alt+1 = 1st desktop; Alt+2 = 2nd desktop, etc.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm using KDE 3.1.
