America's Army

When I try to play it the splash screen comes up then goes away and I ran it in the terminal and got this.

[alan@dhcppc1 alan]$ armyops
Missing symbols - aborting.

History:

Exiting due to error
[alan@dhcppc1 alan]$

What do I need to do to fix it? Yes 3d is enabled.

well i am assuming since you got that error, that you are using an ATI video card ...s
and i think it has to do with the game trying to load the wrong GL library, so if you strace armyops i think you'll notice that its looking for libGL.so.1 in /usr/X11R6/lib/ ..
but if you run fglrxinfo on your machine it will probably say :
Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
so with that said the game is more so looking in the wrong folder ... so in turn you'll
have to make it look at the proper file ...
so by doing :
Code:
cd /usr/X11R6/lib
rm libGL.so.1
ln -s /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 libGL.so.1
and making the libGL.so.1 link in the /usr/X11R6/lib then the game should fire up fine ...

now, i want you to keep in mind that you didn't really give much information other than
the error you got, so everything i have typed above, is all just a recommendation on
what the problem could possibly be ..
so if your not using an ATI gfx card, then everything i said may be irrelevant to you,
and if you are, which i am thinking you are, then you'll have to do strace and fglrxinfo
and see if the above is true, and if it is, then follow the steps and the game will (should)
run fine ...

just check out the commands i outlined, and see if thats still the issue ... i only mentioned
ati because its a known issue ...
so if you can see that its looking for the wrong file, then of course go ahead and try it
you'll never know if you don't try
