Possible New LQ Section - Linux Screencasts
We're considering adding a new section to LQ and we'd like your feedback. The section would contain video screencasts of Linux distributions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3s69akHIVs is a potential example. With that in mind:
* Is this something you'd be interested in seeing at LQ?
* If so, what would you like to see in the screencast?
* Would you also like a separate video of the install process?

Howtos are something we're considering as well, but those would be in a different channel and at a later date. The intention of these would be more to give members an idea about the look and feel of specific distributions (and possibly other Open Source software).

I guess kinda sorta like I did ages ago on a Pentium 3 IBM Laptop.
I sucked at it though.
My gear struggled at making those.
I guess it would be cool but on other forums the video page threads load up real slow for me.
I hope LQ handles it better.
Heck. I avoided http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...619/page6.html
Until that page was fixed. I have a short attention span and slow page load speeds.
Thanks for the example, it has generated a little interest on my part quite unexpectedly!
If this is representative of what you have in mind then I might actually watch some of them. It is not a how-to format, which I find usually fails for computer topics. It is more a preview that doesn't look like an advert.
Bandwidth is not bad (this one came in at 18+ MB), but might still be objectionable if a page of them tried to preload.
And youtube now tries to auto-start the "next" video which has reduced my already minimal visits there - I absolutely hate that - so if the video owner has any control over those "features" I would repeat the old addage, less is more.
Still, I got a glimpse of openSuse which I actually watched instead of closing the page quickly - that must count for something!
