New Section Released
A new section has been added to LinuxQuestions.org. We will now have an HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). The HCL will allow you to enter your hardware into the system and view what devices other members have (and haven't) been able to get to work in Linux. The system will be 100% populated by LQ members, so feel free to enter and rate all the hardware you have. If you have any questions or suggestions post them here. Thanks.
Could adding products being eased? It was confusing on the first attempt since I was not logged in at the HCL area, but was at linuxquestions.org though ...

It uses forum authentication - if you are logged in at the forums you should be logged in at the HCL (and LinuxAnswers, and the reviews section, etc). If you have suggestions on how we could make it more straight forward let me know.
It's a great idea. Just waiting to get back home to put all my gear in. I think you should really add laptops although I appreciate is a little more difficult, since you probably would want people to rate various functional areas like
display
sound
power management
i agree about laptops. While there are linux-specific laptop info sites on the net most of their information is scattered and out of date. For example if you want to set up RedHat Linux 9 on my ThinkPad 600E most of the sound card info isn't right except for one guy's instructions, a lot of the modem info is out of date, and some power management info is kind of wrong. it would be nice to just say: with this distro and kernel this is what i did to get these devices working, etc.
After posting my first submission, I noticed that bbcode are not accepted there... Could this be enabled? Or if not, can there be a notice that bbcodes won't work.

Only bold and italic tags are enabled, along with of course url tags. Don't think anything else is really that big of a deal to enabled. We want it I guess more standard with no smilies, colors and such in the entries.

Azmeen,
I can put a message regarding what is enabled on the posting page. Things like smilies were purposely disabled as 1) they are not as appropriate in the HCL as they are here and 2) more importantly many output's (such as lspci) will have characters that will get turned into smilies and make the info much harder to read.
Actually, the bbcode that I tried to use was the [ code ] one to demonstrate a sample fstab entries... I too think that smilies etc. should not be allowed. However, text formatting should be allowed.
Maybe it could be modified to add an 'out of 10' or something. Maybe add it to the column header. Or make the Rating column header a link to an explanation.
Or just point me to where this is defined already.
What a great idea!!! I think this will be a great section to add to the website since people sometimes ask me what the best Linux OS would be for their laptop/server/PC config This will solve many questions...
itsjustme -- i was just trying to use the scale as best i could. The camera has no linux support but if you use a card reader of course you can download the images so I thought 50% of the scale is what it should be. Some instructions on the scale would be nice.
