Getting Dumped off LQ (requiring loggin in again)

Hi,

Maybe this should be a bug report, but I am posting it here just to see if anybody else has recently had the same problem. Or if perhaps maybe this was a temporary situation caused by maintenance of the site.

I've been on LQ maybe an hour or two, and twice I suddenly had to log back in. This is quite reminiscient of when I first tried posting here and I finally concluded I had to leave the "remember me" box checked if I didn't want this to happen. And this may have been what happened the first time, but if so it was because (as I shift blame to somebody else ) the box wasn't checked by default as usual. But in the second case I know I had the box checked and it still dumped me off when I went to preview a post. After logging back on it gave me a blank page and I finally cleared all cookies and went back to square 1. (Fortunately, for entirely unrelated reasons, I had saved a local copy of the post before this happened!)

Anybody else experienced similar problems in the last day or two?

It's not happened to me. What happens if you clear all LQ cookies and log in again? Does it still reoccur?

My normal way of logging in starts with no LQ cookies because of problems I have had in the past. That should have been where I started the first time it happened. but I have a vague recollection that "remember me" was not checked, although that normally is checked by default. I will report back if I have further problems. I am hoping it was just something transient. But twice in a short period of time got my attention!

It's not happening to me, could it be your browser & the way it handles cookies or something else?

I'm using MEPIS 7.0 32-bit (official), KDE & Konqueror 3.5.8, & KWallet to save my password. I haven't cleared cookies in ages; & I don't remember when the last time I saw the "Remember Me" box, although I believe it's checked. I usually enter LQ by clicking on a link in a subscription (thread, forum, 0-reply) e-mail, & there I am all logged in, ready to post.

That's a theoretical possibility. But I don't consider it real likely since (TMK) nothing has a changed at this end. I saw it twice in rapid succession on Jan 2 and not seen it since. However, this in only my 7th post since then. I saw it twice in quick succession and simply wondered whether anybody else had had problems.

I've not had it happen to me personally. Is there anyone else who uses the "Remember Me" functionality that's getting logged off?

And you are checking the "Remember Me" box? If so, what browser/OS are you using? Are you using any extensions/plugins?

To any member having the issue:

Are you using any browser extensions/plugins?
Are you browsing through any kind of proxy?
Are you allowing cookies and checking the "Remember Me" box?

I have had no more incidents beyond what I reported in post #1. But since I haven't already answered questions 1 or 2, for completeness I will. (My best recollection of "remember me" is in post #1.)

I was using Mozilla 1.4 (not Firefox!) with the Prefbar and User Agent Switcher extensions. I use Privoxy and anything not from linuxquestions.org might be going through Tor. (Images from linuxquestions.cachefly.ne or http.cdnlayer.com likely are not going through Tor.) Note that this is the same setup I have used for a long time w/o problems. (There is a possiblity I have changed a relevant Privoxy setting recently, but I don't think so.)
