Talking opera segmentation fault no more!

I'm running Fedora Core 5 (i386_32) and today I tried installing and running Opera. Well, the install was a breeze, but it wouldn't run from the menu (nothing happened) and in terminal, all I could see were some error messages and an ominous "segmentation fault."

I am very happy to have finally found and fixed this problem. I was trying to research and from what I was reading, no one had exactly my problem (some had installed VLC or mplayer which was causing a problem---but I didn't have VLC installed and mplayer apparently wasn't the problem either). I finally tracked it down to a Totem mozilla plugin I installed from the Livna repository.

With that gone, Opera runs like a champ. (As for Totem, well, I guess that will have to wait for another day). (pats self on back)

If you can get the source code for these programs (e.g. opera) and plugins (e.g. totem), you can try recompiling the sources on your system and then building them into RPMs (recommended).

I forgot to mention that Opera by default pulls in all your plugins (at least on Fedora Core 5) from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (which is where the Livna Totem plugin lived, hence the problem). Fortunately, I disabled that entire plugins folder right off the bat which allowed Opera to run, and that saved me a lot of time, because I was then just left with trying each of the plugins one by one (and I think Totem was the third one). Well, I wish every computer problem turned out as simple as this one was, because at first I was really irritated.

well opera is not open-source... it runs great now, but I'm not sure what I will do with the Totem plugin though (I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there, and ask for help if I can't solve it).
