I installed mandrake 9.1 on Pentium II 233 mmx processor with 32 MB ram. I couldn't use kde or gnome on that machine but icewm works. Not the fastest, but works.
So as I have learn before I can use an application server witch is the computer I am working now, and only use X and network on the old computer. So I only start on init 3 the old computer and manually starts X and a virtual terminal on X.
Code:
X &
export DISPLAY=:0
konsole &
From the virtual terminal I start kde from the application server.
Code:
ssh -X user@192.168.1.11 startkde
I enter the password and then is when the magic starts. The old laptop has the almost the same performace as my Desktop computer. So that is the success I have so far
I think this is something really cool. I use an old computer as the terminal for a newer one. It is even cooler because i use wifi on the old laptop. Any way I have some questions.
This old laptop is going to use someone that don't have that much knowledge on computers. I would like to write a script that starts X and then kde remotely with ssh.
I want to write an script that would be call from inittab and would do all what I just mention before.
The problem I would have is with ssh authentication. Now I am working with DSA authentication and trying to setup ssh so that specific user wont need an authentication.
Also I would have to understand better inittab to understand how I can call that script.
Thanks everyone.
