CS like success story

I am tired of posts about CS for linux so read my story about Tactical Ops !!!

I've been playing for a long time at Tactical Ops since beta 1.6 on windows (about 3 years ago). It is clearly a CS like mod for Unreal Tournament. And you know what, UT run under linux and so TO ....

At the beggining, the TO team (mainly students) released the mod for free. But they have finished their studies and get hired by Infogramme (Atari now). So, the latest version is not free nor open source but is cheap (I payed 20 euros for it) and it runs under Linux.

You can find the linux install at icculus "google tactical ops linux" and the TO forums "google tactical ops forums" (sorry not able to post url)

I am a linux newbie, I switched to mdk 9.1 a few weeks ago. But last weekend was my first TO lan party under linux. Of course (or saddly), I was the only guy running linux. But it run all the day long without crash and the Pingouin fragged a lot of *indowers !!!!

Hi PingouinShark!!!

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org. I really am with you on this one . It has been a long time since I last played TO, but the mod was great. Nice, detailed models, Unreal Engine is much newer and way more stable then Half-Life and runs at about the same specifications. The playability of TO is not as neat as CS, but even if you are being hit, you could at least keep moving, unlike CS. The weapons are really well done and more realistic impacts (as the frag grenade, that is a dangerous one..ghehe).
I also think everybody, specially Linux users, should give a shot to TO and 20 bucks ain't so bad either .
