Orinoco gold proxim card not recognized?

I've got a proxim orinoco gold 802.11b card and a laptop running slack 9.0. On boot it brings up a mentioning of the card being a wireless card and gives a small amount of info and looks like it recognizes it, but when it comes time to get onto my network it doesnt work. It doesn't recognize the card. I'm fairly new to linux so I'm prolly gonna need a step by step to get this working. Anyone know how I could get it working?

I don't have personal experience with the Orinoco card but take a look at the Linux and Wireless LANs resource. There is some Orinoco specific information and a lot of info about general wireless setup under Linux.
