PCLinuxOS Phoenix Mini 2010.11 VMware image update fails?

ended up trying this out and had 2 installs with failed updates using ~ 600mb of wasted bandwidth for the updates alone..

googled around and looks to me like this vers does not update?

this appears to be the latest vers (Phoenix Edition 2011-07) where i'm not clear on how this part might apply?

what happens for me after updating is i get an extra output message, and basically nothing works on the desktop at that point and i'm left with powering off to shutdown,

then on reboot, doesn't boot up, hangs.

safe boot option boots to a command line but i'm lost there as to options

should this vers update?

the default software source checked off turns into a dead link, then there are ~ 10 more sources to chose from,

ended up checking off the next 3 software sources on the first update,
then just the next one on the 2nd update, both failed with the same outcome

on another note, couldn't find anything else pclos more recent, or current via vmware good to go?

Given that most Pclos's have LiveCD's - i would suggest going to the PCLOS site for your images rather than a VM image which may rapidly become out of date. Virtualbox has a special switch for "LiveCD"'s so, I guess VMWARE does too?
I have a generic VM setup - to which I attach various livecd's I want to "try".

as to....

Maybe what happened was you used the VMWARE image - which was older and therefore got the "breakages with the current XFCE 4.6 Environment"??
Another way to read it is.... DO DOWNLOAD AND PERFORM A FRESH INSTALL.

thx and yes vmware can run a live iso image, given a choice, i prefer to run vms that just unzip and run, as in are pre installed good to go,

used to be plenty of current ones available back in the 07 days,

unless someone else chimes in then this one will be solved, as in

this image does not update

this is the only and most current pre configured (not requiring an installation process) pclos vmware image out there

running a current pclos iso image live in vmware, requires a standard installation in vmware, to have that setup,

going on to tinyme i found next
