PCLinuxOS - X Fails to start after First System update

Howdy All,

So I installed the latest PCLinuxOS KDE version on my system the other day and it was working swimmingly until I ran the first system update and rebooted. Now when they system comes online I get no graphical interface. I use an nVidia graphics card and I see the driver screen flash and then I see a cursor for a moment and shortly afterwards I get kicked to a tty login (and pressing ctrl+alt+f7/8/9/10 confirms X is not running).

Any ideas what went wrong and how I can get a GUI for the system again?

~Jeff

I know this sounds stupid, but did you try logging in and typing "startx" (no quotes)?
Also could you post your Xorg.x.log so that we can see what errors you're getting.

I hadn't tried startx yet as I figured it would just crash again, will try that.

The Xorg.x.log, is that located in /etc/X11?

I managed to hose Gnome after doing this same thing, but I can't say I've figured it out yet...

Did the update include a newer kernel or version of X?.
If so you'll need to rebuild the nvidia module.

Issue ended up being that a whole pile of packages where failed to be upgraded when the system update ran. Running
Code:
apt-get dist-upgrade
from my TTY did the trick.
