Interesting. I just tried what ntubski said in post #2, and one of the addons was re-enabled. It also gives me the option to re-enable the rest of them too.

Being, setting the xpinstall.signatures.required setting to "false" in about:config

Did you do that Hazel, or did they just automatically re-enable?

I've attached a screenshot below.

I just got hit by the bug yet I already had the latest version so I guess it was just being lazy to finally hit me or something. lol

I edited about:config to get them back. Yea this is a bit awkward lol

No, I didn't do anything, just checked from time to time. They seem to be clearing it version by version.

I can't think of any other explanation, so I'll go with yours unless a better one comes along...

Something similar happened to me.

The one and only add-on installed is the download helper add-on.
Firefox popped up a window saying:
Quote:
One or more installed add-ons cannot be verified and have been disabled.
And the download helper button/icon was removed from the GUI.

So, I think it's time now to get rid of Firefox.

I just don't like that perverted ugly new mainstream definition of FREEDOM.

Signing of add-ons was introduced as a security measure, probably a very decent one given the threats out there. Where Mozilla royally mucked up was in not renewing the certificate. They will take a good deal of flak, rightfully, for that.

But if you want to over-react and whizz off to another browser then please exercise your freedom to do so. Have fun, but watch out that you may end up running out of browsers to choose from if you ditch them any time something goes wrong.

As a test, I just turned off "Allow Firefox to install and run studies", and my addons are still enabled.

As far as I read, turning Studies on just allows the fix to get in there. Once it's in, you can turn Studies off again with no issue.

Yes, the "fix" link said we could do that once the fix had been applied...it only needed to be turned on to allow the quick fix to happen. It was already on on my Windows box, so although I had the banner when I went to it, it disappeared and all add-ons were OK at first refresh of a page.
Still waiting here.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. My point was that scasey could try the about:config option, then he doesn't have to wait for the update.

Tor Browser 8.0.8 will not allow Firefox to install and run studies. So, the NoScript add-on is broken on it. Hopefully in their next update it will be fixed.

I have been in doubt with the use Firefox for some time and several reasons now, so this would be just an additional point to switch the browser. I have disabled all the security updates plus anything else related in any manner to security etc.pp. and I even switched all that xpinstall.XXX stuff to false. I'm running as root and I'm almost all time on the internet without to use a firewall.

I never had any trouble (mainly because I'm a careful person, not clicking on everything that blinks and pops up etc.pp.).

I want to decide when and if to disable ANYTHING that I had installed. And I want to be the ONLY one who takes power on such decisions. I don't need Liars to prevent me for doing stupid things and to secure me when being online!

This is not my definition of FREEDOM. This is just censorship and dictatorship.

That's just dumb full stop.

Is that because you use Puppy Linux and can't be bothered setting up a normal user?

Ah, so security is not a priority of yours then. Fair enough. The thing is, it is a priority (and should be) for mostly everyone else.

You're definitely right that you should find another browser. I'm sure you'll find one more to your tastes though. Good luck.
