A link to the same story can be found on the Google News web site.
Rather ironic that the site you linked to had the following at the foot of the article:

Yes, I saw that.
My hosts file blocks all his links, so I always get some sort of message along that line.

I wonder what makes someone affected or not. For example, my instance of Firefox is not affected at all and I have seen others report they dont have issues either. This is unfortunate but thats kind of interesting.

Yup me too. I had a version of Firefox 66.0.3 produce the problem in a Windows 8.1 VM last night, but my main Mint 19.1 version of Firefox 66.0.3 is showing no sign of the issue at all.

The fix has taken effect on my computer. So everything is back to normal.

I suspect that the Linux people who are affected by this are not using repo versions of Firefox such as using the tarball or using a git version or non-stable. So far every person on Linux affected that I've seen aren't using the stable version direct from a repo.

Not true in my case. I'm using the standard Slackware FF. But it seems to be OK now.

I'm using Firefox 60.6.1esr from the CentOS repo and while the "fix" has been applied, my addons are still disabled...

Definitely OK at my end. But I noticed just now that my home page and search engine had been switched to Google (despite having www.duckduckgo.com set as homepage in preferences). I got back to DDG, reset privacy and it worked OK, no weird messages.

Are you using Firefox ESR or the "normal" Firefox though?
