Suse 9.2 x86_64 apm & cpu throttling don't work

Recently installed Suse 9.2 x86_64 on an ECS 755-A2 mobo.

The Suse standby hangs on attempted wakeup. So does "apm -s".

In contrast, clusterKnoppix3.3 goest to standby and wakes up flawlessly, so it's not the hardware.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

(oh, yeah, cpu throttling doesn't seem to work either...it would be useful...I'd like to throttle a very demanding application till I'm confident the system can handle it...don't know for certain whether it was the cause, but a power supply fried while running it at full bore.)
