Well I got it. I went the manual route and downloaded the nvidia drivers from their site (7174 I believe).
I used command line Yast2 to update the kernel, install kernel source, gcc, and make.
(BTW for any noobs reading: When your boot options come up type "init 3" into the commands line that appears on the bootloader. This will prevent X from trying to load and bring you to a command prompt. From there you can login as root and run Yast2 to configure your system.)
Followed a couple instructions on this post:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/post-190617.html
Especially the:
Quote:
make cloneconfig
make prepare-all
|
Then I followed the Nvidia instructions:
Quote:
2) Use the nvidia installer for 1.0-7174.
modprobe agpgart
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7174-pkg2.run -q
3) Configure X.Org with
sax2 -m 0=nvidia (0 is a digit, not a letter!)
|
(My modprobe agpgart didn't work but a utility called testgart confirmed that I had the agp requirements already in my kernel)
After SaX started I picked nvidia 6600GT driver and selected my monitor and restarted. Sweet 3D! GLXGears confirms it (as does the Nvidia logo coming up when starting X). I have yet to try America's Army though...
).
It actually went quite well. Hope I didn't break anything else....if so, maybe it's time for Fedora.
Not sure what's going to happen when Suse tries to update my nvidia driver (if it does) though.
Anyways, hope it helps somebody.

Edit:
P.S. btw it does show 3D acceleration as "unavailable" also. The command line Yast showed it as being "enabled" if I recall correctly.
