Thumbs down

I am having problems with installation of Sun's Java development kit on my RHL7.1 (kernal 2.4) . I used both the jdk1_3_0_02-linux.bin and jdk1_3_0_02-linux-rpm.bin to install the directory structure. I also have the environment variables set to point to the java home and java bin path as outlined in the installation notes. The trouble is, I can get the the darn java executable to work. It just hangs when I issue java -version.

Someone sparked a notion that perhaps the binary distribution of non-open-source Sun JDK might not be compiled under kernal 2.4 and there is conflict. Anyone successful in loading JDK1.3 in RHL7.1 (kernal 2.4)?
