redhat linux 8.0 modem problem!!!!


i'm just have bought motorola sm56 speakerphone voice modem...
after installed the modem on my machine, redhat linux 8.0 detected my modem on boot, but when i want to make internet connection wizard, linux cann't probing my modem, what happened?

can u try for /dev/ttySx
where x - 1 ... 9

erm... i cann't still connect to internet, i waiting very long, kppp only say ' initializing modem' so long...can you tech me how to make a dial up connection?

that's not simple to explain.
Look inside RHat docs and read PPP Howto.

sorry for the delayed response..
Try the following click the setup button and then kppp configuration panel comes then in it goto modem tab there u will see the "Query Modem" button click it and if linux finds ur modem which u can set from device tab.

1st make sure that your modem is supported by linux, "Query" ur modem and if its doesnt tedected u will have 2 make it an linmodem which isnt 2 hard, also i have noticed that wit some modems it dependson weather its internal or external (well on my linux box anyways). If its detected just run KPPP and u will b set
