i have heard (and tried) ,the install cannot be done directlyfrom the windows cds...wine and winex have both failed at some point for me...
you need to take an installation of the windows box/partition ...(the whole NWN folder {probably better to update NWN then grab the folder})
then simply copy that whole folder to where ever you'd like it to be (ie your home directory) ...i just copied an updated installation from winblows to some cd's (like 4 cd's ...i didn't feel like compressing it?) along with the NWN linux client from bioware's site.
word of caution ...you'll probably run into some `permissions` problems when trying to play NWN as a normal user (maybe not tho...i did). i think i just chowned everything to myself and made sure certain files had the correct CHMOD attributes ...i'm pretty sure it's all on bioware's site tho.)
alright cool ill try that. couple more questions for you.do you know why it runs choppy on windows even though i meet the required stats? even at low settings it runs choppy. and will it act that way in linux??
Required stats are generally mis-leading, I find, especially on games. Take the required, multiply by 2, and you should have the accurate stats required to comfortably play the game. Also, if you don't want to install windows, there is the option to download the games data files from bioware. Hefty download though, over a GB.

Yeah, you can use your windows disk to install the native linux game. The data files are the same, so all you need to do is download the executables from http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html. I think the download is something like 300 MB, but I don't know--I just ordered the linux version from tuxgames. . .
ok cool. it made me angry because i had just bought NWN for windows then decided to start using linux. of course there is dual boot wich i am on now. but well we all know how annoying it is to reboot everytime you wanna play a game for an hour. thx again.

I don't think so. I was never able to find Diablo 2 executables for Linux, and I don't play the others. NWN took over a year to port to Linux after the game had been released for windows, and Blizzard is unlikely to do something similar for its Diablo line. . .
If enough people show interest in the NWN linux version, this may be the push the game companies need to start considering linux support.
I am really impressed with bioware and NWN... there was a long, long wait for the client... but it was worth it and support is great at their site .. nwn.bioware.com
There are several ways to get the game running. You can download the data files, but it's huge. You could copy them from windows, but that sucks. You could use wine (nwwine), but that's buggy. However, there is a linux installer for the game available here :
I use it and it works great and it's super-easy. Just remember to download the client patch to version 1.30 after you install.. and you will need the SDL libraries, but you can get them at the bioware site, also. Just check out the site.. there is plenty of linux support there, including a forum.
Now, if we could just get native support for the nwn toolkit...
