mouse cursor dissapers in KDE but works in console. using Slack 9.1

In slackware 9.1 i can use my mouse in the console in something called gpm or other that loads up at the start (its for using your mouse in the console) but when i 'startx' KDE loads up fine but when i try to move the mouse the cursor dissapears and i am stuck, so i have to Ctrl-Alt-backspace. My XFREE86Config files are set up to work with my mouse whinch is a 3-buttoned serial mouse using ttyS0

try editing your /etc/X11/XF86config file

Code:
Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
change it to ttyS1
