Question midi programs play but have no sound

Kmid and Rosegarden play a .mid song file but have no sound output.

Timidity plays .mid and does have sound when played from a console (timidity song.mid).

aconnect -i
client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
0 'Timer '
1 'Announce '
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 128: 'rosegarden' [type=user]
1 'sync out '
2 'external controller'
3 'out 1 - General MIDI Device'
4 'out 2 - MIDI output system device'
5 'out 3 - MIDI software device'
6 'out 4 - MIDI software device 2'
7 'out 5 - MIDI software device 3'
8 'out 6 - MIDI software device 4'

Any ideas?

Current distro: FC6

I've used all the Fedora core distros. At least 4,5 & 6 don't have midi sound.

you are going to have to start timidity like this
timidity -iA -B2,8 -Os

you can put a & after that command if you don't want to have it open in a window
that will give you some writable midi ports to choose from within your applications like
kmid
settings -> MIDI setup
