Messengers: Send offline messages?

Hi,
I'm looking for a messenger client that will allow me to send messages to people who are offline, not just recieve them. Gaim seems to be able to do this but only if I reply almost instantly to one which I have recieved. I have searched these forums and did a Google but found nothing.

Any help much appreciated.

+ Also don't mind if I need to use a plugin for any other available IM client.

I had the impression that off-line delivery (i.e. waiting till the user logs in and then sending) is actually a feature of the IM network, rather than the client, but I could be wrong.

In any case, you can always set up buddy pounces in gaim to wait until you are both online and then send a message. By the way, gaim has been re-named to pidgin now.

I know but I can't help but call it Gaim - probably due to using Debian for much of my Linux life (which is quite short) where you can't actually get "Pidgin".

The only reason I need to be able to send messages to offline contacts is because some people I talk to are always appearing offline (as I do quite a bit when busy) so it's just a bit annoying not to be able to reply to conversations.

Thank you for replying anyway
