Mandrake 9.1 kernel problems

I am currently trying to expand my knowledge so, of course i am trying to compile my linux kernel to my system. Problem is, the threads and sites i've been reading on the internet are assuming ALOT of me, that I can't claim to know.

Problem
1. I am running Mandrake 9.1, where is my kernel source ? I did not install cd 3, might that be a problem ? Internet talks about /usr/src/linux, but i dont have that directory !

2. If i never do find that source, what version should i download off the internet and where to do this.

3. Also, in the control center when i click on >System > Linux Kernel> it gives me an error saying.. "kernel configuragtion could not be read due to the following error: cannot open /usr/src/linux/arch//config.ini for reading ...
"Either your kernel sources contains invalid configuration rules or you just found a bug in KDE kernel configurator"

Thanx in advance for your help, i took a leap of faith moving from windows... im depending on someone to coach me thru this. lol thx again.

The Kernel source is on the third CD. If you install that it will fix the error in the kernel configerator.

1. You need the third cd to install the default kernel sources.

2. kernel.org (i think) is where to download another kernel. The newest version should be fine. Make sure you download the full kernel and not just a patch.

3Havin a kerenl source will fix that problem

Can I just put in cd3 and then install packages ? or put it in and restart and update instead of install... will either work?
